Description
Mujadara is a comforting and savory Lebanese dish made with lentils, basmati rice, and caramelized onions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup green lentils
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 2 medium onions
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Rinse lentils under cold water, then combine with 4 cups of water in a pot, bring to a boil, and simmer for about 20 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.
- In another pot, boil salted water and add basmati rice. Cook according to package instructions, usually 10 to 15 minutes. Drain if needed and set aside.
- While lentils and rice are cooking, slice onions. Heat olive oil over medium heat in a skillet, add onions, and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized, about 15 to 20 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine cooked lentils and rice. Add cumin, salt, and pepper to taste, then gently mix. Serve topped with crispy caramelized onions.
Notes
For a spicier flavor, feel free to add paprika or cinnamon to the dish.
